Breast cancer is the most widely diagnosed cancer in the US and worldwide. It is the leading cause of cancer in women, exceeded only by lung cancer. Death rates from breast cancer have been declining since 1990, and these decreases are believed to be the results of earlier detection, increased awareness and improved treatment options. This rising survival rate creates a clear need for increased treatment options to restore women and men to optimum health and functional mobility across their lifespan. My 17+ years of clinical experience is a unique fusion of training and expertise in Myofascial Release, Physical Therapy and Pilates based rehabilitation. These pillars combined with my newly acquired knowledge and focused study of Breast Cancer Pilates Rehabilitation are a much needed treatment option for breast cancer survivors. These combined modalities can facilitate a safe, medically based, holistic, effective and supportive form of health and healing for your friends, family and loved ones. |

Pre & Post Cancer Treatment Options Individual pre & post treatment scenarios are unique, however many common things are shared: limited mobility and sensation, muscle and visceral imbalances, pain, altered self image and self confidence. Myofascial Release and Pilates combined can be an excellent way to facilitate postural re-education, increased range of motion and muscle re-balancing necessary to recover from the side effects of breast cancer treatments. In addition, pre-treatment sessions are recommended to optimally prepare the client's body and mind for the best possible outcomes.
Medical interventions to treat the breast cancer can include biopsy, lumpectomy, partial or total mastectomy and implants. Additional treatments can include port placement, chemotherapy, radiation and hormone therapy. Common conditions post cancer treatment can be nerve irritation, frozen shoulder, impingement, rotator cuff injuries, pain, decreased rib and chest expansion, decreased lung capacity, osteoporosis, fatigue and lymphedema.
My specialized training in multiple treatment options is an ideal rehabilitative environment for breast cancer clients. This specialized knowledge is essential to be aware of specific surgical procedures, flaps and precautions for post-operative treatment. Vast knowledge of the anatomy and surgical procedures is essential for the safe, appropriate and effective progressions for the growing population of breast cancer survivors. My treatment environment is a supportive, quite, private setting equipped with state of the art Pilates Reformer, Tower, Arc, Bosu, Chair, Foam Rollers, Rings, Step and Ladder barrels.
The latest research supports Physical Therapy and exercise to enhance the functional quality of life following breast cancer treatments. Restoring strength and range of motion to the chest, neck, shoulders and spine is extremely important for the client to resume normal self care, daily activities and to resume a happy and healthy lifestyle.
